Twilight. The most beautiful time of day, in Shadestar's opinion. The dying rays of the sun turned the clearing a brilliant red as the FishClan leader watched from her perch atop a crumbling gravestone. The tall, half-dead grass waved slightly, though there wasn't the slightest breeze in the area. Hopefully the small stirrings were caused by mice or other prey, though the weather was getting colder. Her Clan was doing well this Leaf-Fall, and there was still prey available other than fish. She knew from experience that cats tired of fish quickly when it was the only thing to eat all Leaf-Bare long.
Speaking of Leaf-Bare... The Clan would have to start stocking up on prey, before it ran out. They would have to keep up their strength for the long season ahead. StarClan forbid that they loose anyone to sickness, when there were already enough deaths from the constant fighting with RatClan. Even in the last few moons, they had lost- No. She wouldn't think about that.
Keeping check on her bloodthirsty warriors was draining for the young she-cat, and she had come here to clear her mind, not mope about. There was prey to be caught. A low, angry growl escaped from her throat. Mainly at herself, of course, but also at RatClan, Coldstar, and at life in general. That done, Shadestar leaped gracefully to the ground. Dropping into a low, albeit tense, hunting crouch, she let her senses take over. A small rustle, several tail-lengths away, alerted her to the presence of another creature. Mouse, according to its scent. Perfect.
Lifting one paw slightly off the ground, careful not to shake the tall grass any more than was necessary, she crept slowly forward. Several more hesitant steps brought her within striking distance of the small creature, which still seemed oblivious. Tensing herself to leap, she leaned forward slightly and- "Fox dung!" The she-cat spat as her prey looked up, spotted her, and bolted. Lunging forward with surprising speed, she barely managed to hook a single claw into the mouse's flank. Dragging the animal closer toward her, she ended its life quickly with a swift bite to the neck.
Thanking StarClan silently for the fresh-kill, she hurried to bury it, before turning again to crossly study the lawn. Considering the racket she had made with that catch, she would be surprised if any prey remained. Tail lashing in annoyance, she sat down, not quite sure what else to do. Maybe StarClan would have mercy on her and send some cat to ease her frustration. They surely knew that she could use a pep talk.

Hollybreeze watched her leader anger from a distance. within her small jaws was a fish she had caught at the pond with Pineclaw. She had left Pineclaw t deal with her kit. She chuckled at that thought. Poor tom. she shook her head. Then pushed out of the undergrowth as soon as Shadestar caught her kill. She nodded her small head respectfully to her leader.
She must have looked funny carrying a this fish within her small jaws. She placed the fish at her paws and looked at her leader. She then began her report. "Pineclaw and I were hunting at the pond. From what I saw he caught two and I caught one myself. Wolfpaw came along and Pineclaw now trying to teach her to hunt. To save her the embarrassment of me watching her hunt a fish for the first time I left. First first trying to catch a fish is rough. I remember falling in multiple times! Anyways, I came out here to see what I can catch since the fish will be scared and ran into you. You seemed quite mad when I first saw you. What is bothering you , Shadestar?" Hollybreeze asked Shadesar. She sat down and wrapped her fluffy calico tail around her paws. She had her ear prickled for any other cat or prey.

Shadestar started slightly as a small rustle signaled the approach of another cat. Turning to look, her eyes lit up, noting the newcomer to be her deputy. The small she-cat had a very large fish in her jaws, but she soon set it down. A good thing, too, as she looked like she might be having a hard time lugging around such a huge piece of prey. "Nice catch, Hollybreeze." She couldn't quite keep the slight purr out of her voice. It was so nice to have some company, finally.
I remember falling in multiple times!"
The leader chuckled slightly, already in a slightly better mood. Listening to her deputy ramble on reminded her that there were still living cats to tend to. Life must go on, after all.
"Anyways, I came out here to see what I can catch since the fish will be scared and ran into you. You seemed quite mad when I first saw you. What is bothering you , Shadestar?"
At this, the she-cat looked away. She gave her chest fur an embarrased lick before stuttering slightly. No good clan leader was supposed to loose her temper like that. "I was, ah... Thinking, is all. Leaf-Bare is always rough, you know. Not really looking forward to it..." She trailed off, knowing the excuse was weak.
Eager to change the subject, she spoke up again, her tone much lighter this time. "Speaking of Wolfpaw. Considering that she's already three moons into her training, we should really get her a new mentor. Do you think Pineclaw would be a good choice?" Actually, if they were getting into that train of thought... "Come to think of it, Hawkpaw needs a mentor, too. Would you be willing to take him on?" Shadestar wondered aloud, her tail flicking back and forth gently. All thought of prey was forgotton, although her ears were still pricked up toward the field. She didn't want anyone else taking her by surprise, after all.

"Nice catch, Hollybreeze."
Hollybreeze let out a purr. A praise from the clan leader made any cat happy. It was always nice to hear. "Oh thank you, Shadestar! Took me two tries!
"I was, ah... Thinking, is all. Leaf-Bare is always rough, you know. Not really looking forward to it..."
Hollybreeze looked at her leader. She could tell her leader was not telling her the complete truth. She let it go, Shadestar would tell her if she had to know. Then, her thoughts drifted towards to leaf-bare. She shuddered, not because of the cold, but the lack of food supplies. She let out a small sigh. "Well, Shadestar, we have many strong warriors and apprentices to help this leaf bare. We have will collect a food storage now and have food lasting half though leaf bare. We will keep hunting through leaf bare and keep the food supplies running.
"Speaking of Wolfpaw. Considering that she's already three moons into her training, we should really get her a new mentor. Do you think Pineclaw would be a good choice/"
Hollybreeze let out a purr of excitement for her kits. She curled her tail up and dug her claws in the dirt. Her kit getting her mentor. "I think he would be perfect for my Wolfpaw. He's patient, but will not go easy on her for her disability. He will turn her into a young fine warrior one day.
"Come to think of it, Hawkpaw needs a mentor, too. Would you be willing to take him on?"
Hollybreeze was speechless, of course she's mentor a warrior before. She let out a small smile. She was thrilled. "I would be more then willing to take on him as my apprentice. he will make a great warrior himself too!"

"Oh thank you, Shadestar! Took me two tries!"
The she-cat smiled, glad that her praise could brighten up someone's day. Keeping spirits up was usually Hollybreeze's area of expertise, and knowing that she could cheer up her already upbeat deputy just seemed to make the leader happy.
But, as she stuttered out an excuse for her little loss of temper, she could tell by the look on Hollybreeze's face that she didn't believe her. Well, Shadestar could live with that. Her deputy obviously had enough faith to trust that she would share anything of importance. Still, it was a shame to see her sigh like that. There was too much sadness in the world these days.
"Well, Shadestar, we have many strong warriors and apprentices to help this leaf bare. We have will collect a food storage now and have food lasting half though leaf bare. We will keep hunting through leaf bare and keep the food supplies running."
The leader bobbed her head, agreeing fully. The clan was doing well these days. Besides, the Twolegs -annoying as they were- kept the pond well stocked with fish. Starvation wasn't as big of a problem for FishClan, and Shadestar was grateful.
Moving on to a brighter subject... The she-cat was slightly amused that the other cat was so excited at the mention of her kit. Perhaps it was normal, but still, it was great to see someone so incredibly content.
"I think he would be perfect for my Wolfpaw. He's patient, but will not go easy on her for her disability. He will turn her into a young fine warrior one day."
"Exactly. You can't let a cat off easily just because they are a little less..." -She trailed off, searching for the right word- "Skilled. RatClan won't hesitate to take advantage of her eye, and she needs someone tough enough to explain that."
And, of course, the other she-cat was thrilled to get another apprentice. "I would be more then willing to take on him as my apprentice. He will make a great warrior himself, too!"
"Thanks for taking him on, Hollybreeze. He certainly has the right build to make a good warrior." She paused for a moment, deep in thought. "Though, come to think of it, I worry about him sometimes. He's so withdrawn, so anti-social..." Shadestar looked back up at her deputy, eyes twinkling. "I'm sure you'll have no problem sorting that out, though."
Mood much improved, the leader rose slowly to her feet. "I see no need to hesitate. Should we hold the ceremonies in the morning?"

A glance at the last rays of sunlight showed that they didn't have long to get back to camp. Nightfall would be upon them soon. "I have a feeling that all of the prey will have returned to their dens by now. And they have the right idea, too. Whenever you're ready, we can head back to camp." A few strokes of her paws, and she had unearthed her prey from the hard ground. Picking up the mouse in her small jaws, Shadestar turned to gaze at Hollybreeze expectantly. The deputy could lead the way. [/blockquote]
