Sovereign is set in an indeterminate time (though most likely not past or present), in an indeterminate place.

The clans, whether they realize it or not, are in a rather bad part of town. They have stumbled into the fringes of a large, mostly deteriorating city, and luckily very few humans actually make it out to the fringes where the clans make their home. For the most part the clans have centered themselves around an abandoned, overgrown park, and the metal fence that runs along the borders of all clans is a thing of wonder to most clan cats, and to defy this border, some think, is to defy StarClan.

The park, at this point, is ruled almost exclusively by BirdClan. BirdClan's territory stretches along the southeastern portion of Sovereign's domain, and is the largest of the bunch. Few twolegs venture into the overgrown grass and underbrush that now dominates the park, but its benches and statues still remain.

The southwestern part of the area is an old graveyard, with only a few patches still navigable by humans. This is where FishClan takes up residence, with their camp being set off to the western portion. The parts that are still tended by humans are tended rather often, and it is here that they get their titular fish supply.

RatClan's territory takes up a narrow strip along the northern portion of the area, bordering both other clans to the south. Their territory runs from the park's eastern border, the graveyard's western border, and building's width north (giving them the smallest area). This part of the city is still inhabited by a few humans, but, surprisingly, RatClan sees less of them than FishClan does, though RatClan sees more of their handiwork.
