Black and white she-cat with brilliant golden eyes Female 35 moons BirdClan Deputy
Personality: Sootstorm has a weird kind of energy about her. To some cats, she is soothing, easy to be around. But with others, they sort of feel driven away from the she-cat for no apparent reason. Either they like her right away, or they don't. It's as simple as that. Her voice is very smooth and soothing and sort of deep-toned. It's a rare thing for Sootstorm to raise her voice about anything, it is mostly nice and delicate like a purr. Sootstorm feels that she is mysterious somehow. This mysterious aura makes her emotions difficult to read. Her face will stay smooth as stone if she wants it to, her eyes hard and emotionless. It frightens some cats, but others find it amusing. She never lets too much go. She likes to keep 'em guessing. This is sort of a good quality for a deputy to have because she can keep the Clan calm and collected during mayhem through her smooth expressions and soothing voice.
Since she grew up with her slow-learning brother, the she-cat had developed many nice qualities over the seasons. Sootstorm has extreme patience. She loved teaching cats to learn something new, and will stand by their side until it sticks in their minds. Sootstorm also finds satisfaction in sorting out other cats' problems, for some odd reason. The cat will sit for moons, comforting them, grooming them, soothing them. Another of her good qualities is her determination, her loyalty. Sootstorm is a loyal cat through and through. She will never find more pleasure in doing anything but serving her Clan. She shows her Clan who she is and what she is fighting for. Sootstorm's determination doesn't over-power her mind, as it does with some cats. She knows where to stop when things get shaky. She would never do any harm to any cat in order to become more powerful. The cat loves where she is in her life right now, she needs nothing more than the satisfaction of serving her Clan as a Deputy.
And then there is clumsiness. She isn't that great of a hunter, you see, due to this very fact. Sootstorm is constantly tripping over her own paws, or her tail even. She doesn't even know how she manages to trip on her tail, but it happens. Her clumsiness gets in the way of many things. For example, Sootstorm has an exceptionally difficult time getting over trees that have fallen across a river, or semi-steep hills... things like that. But she doesn't let her clumsiness overwhelm her. Though some cats may tease her for it, she knows that many others respect her and keeps her head cool.
The cat has a great sense of discipline and self-control. If something is going too far, she knows how to stop it. If a younger cat was, for example, talking back to an elder, she would immediately jump in and put some sense into the cat. She hates to see any cat disrespecting others, especially the senior warriors and the elders. As far as self-control goes, Sootstorm has got it covered. Well, she can't exactly control her clumsiness, but she can control her thoughts and most of her actions. The cat thinks before she does things. She uses her common sense. And when she is in a difficult situation, she can usually pull herself out of it with really, not many problems.
Also, I feel that I should mention her beliefs. Her faith lies with StarClan and their traditional ways, unlike many other cats. Though, for the most part, cats in BirdClan have the same beliefs. She follows StarClan's path and lets them guide her to make decisions. Sootstorm will often be found sort of praying to them at a late hour in the night.
Appearance: Sootstorm has a medium-sized build, for the most part. Her hind legs are muscular, but not too big. One wouldn’t see her as an intimidating opponent in a fight, but she would surprise most. Her muscles are wirey and thin, rather than bulky, so the cat doesn’t look muscular, she just is.
She has the kind of look that some cats may find beautiful, but then others may not. Sootstorm would be one to stand out in a crowd. Her fur is just a mixture of black and white that swirl in with one another, creating a pattern along her body. Sootstorm's tail starts black at the base and continues black until it gets a pretty far way up her tail. Then the black abrubtly stops, and continues on as white. The white stops a few inches up, and the very tip of her tail is black. It looks unusual, but Sootstorm likes it. She gets many questions regarding her tail, which most of them come from kits, who squeak "Your tail looks funny! How did it get like that?" Or "Is your tail supposed to be like that?" The she-cat finds it quite amusing.
She has beautiful, large, golden eyes with darker flecks scattered among them. Her eyes really stand out against her fur colors, and are usually the first thing that a cat notices about her.
The other thing that is noticed right away, is the black spot right on her nose. There is an upside down "v" spot filled with white that starts near Sootstorm's forehead. The black spot forms right on top of the white between her eyes. Then it travels all the way down the bridge and stops smack dab on her nose. Then, the white that surrounds the black spot spreads out and runs across her cheek bones, then down her neck and chest. While we're on the subject of Sootstorm's chest.. there is another significant marking there as well, that is noticable also. If she is standing with her legs like this " | | ", then the spot is right inbetween the crease of her front legs, under her chest. It is a black spot that looks sort of strange, but others don't take too much notice of it. Her front legs are strange. There are black spots that spiral down both her left and her right front legs. The spirals stop near the middle of her legs, leaving her paws to be white.
The cat is clumsy, though it has gotten progressively better over the years. Sootstar has small paws, which are one of the many reasons for her clumsiness. She can't balance very well on them. Another reason for that is her tail. It is long and thin, and the cat sometimes trips over it, if she doesn't keep it out from under her paws [which she finds sort of difficult]. Sootstar has short, wide ears with little white fuzzies in them. Her nose is black and a little bit on the wide side. It curves out at an angle and is kind of pushed down into her face. The she-cat has white, spread-out whiskers that stick out this way and that. They are very defined against the black spots on her pelt.
History:
"What's wrong with him?" Sootstorm had a strange kithood. She was born into a litter of two. Herself, and her brother Blackkit. When she had finally opened her eyes, she remembered the first thing that she saw was her brother laying beside her. At first sight, the kit had had a spot in her heart for the tom. But she didn't know how much of a hassle that the tom would bring in the future.
"Why is he different?" It had taken awhile for Blackkit to open his eyes. She had worried that they would never open, and he would have to live like that for the rest of his life. But they did open, and everyone was relieved. Of course, Sootstorm had immediately wanted to play with her brother, but her mother had soon forbidden her to do so. She wondered why. All of the other kits were allowed to play... why not Blackkit? When she asked her mother for a reason, the reply was simply "He's different." It took about three moons to understand what Blackstorm was talking about. But appearently she meant that Blackkit had a different mind than everyone else. At four moons, Blackkit was finally learning how to speak and walk, and he was trying so hard.
"You can't be serious." It was as if the kit's efforts were useless. After he was striving in learning how to talk, and how to do new things, something terrible happened. The kit had been crushed by a tree branch the first time that Blackstorm had taken them out of camp. Sootstorm had been utterly shocked. She had really thought that her brother would grow up to be an apprentice with her, then a warrior. Blackstorm had blamed herself for moons, saying that if she hadn't have taken her kits out of camp that day, Blackkit wouldn't have died.
"The past is the past." After the shock died down, Sootstorm went back to living her life. Her heart still hurt for her brother, but she knew that it wasn't worth dwelling on. That would just slow her down. Sootstorm was an apprentice now, and that changed everything. She had a new outlook on things, a new reason. The apprentice worked hard and did her best to fulfill her duties. As she was growing older, she was becoming more and more experienced. But she was also becoming clumsy for some reason. Her mentor had been concerned about her hunting in her last few moons of training and Sootstorm was afraid that they would delay her warrior ceremony. But it wasn't delayed, because she showed them that she could hunt.. semi-decently.
"You clumsy fool." The first day as a warrior, and she embarrassed herself. During the naming ceremony, Sootstorm had tripped on her tail as she had padded to the center of the clearing. How annoying. Sootstorm was angry at herself for that little moment, but the anger soon faded as she was appointed a warrior. Many cats congratulated her with a purr or two, then cleared away. But some stuck around and gave her strange looks. Some whispered things about her to each other, like; "Is she really ready to be a warrior? She's so unstable on her paws..." or "That mouse-brained fool can't even catch a mouse!". These comments irritated Sootstorm, and may have brought down her self-esteem, but she still believed in herself enough to keep on trekking along.
"Your time has come." The day came when Sootstorm became Deputy. All of the hard work had paid off. Finally, she counted for something. When the new leader had been appointed, she'd only dreamed of becoming the deputy of BirdClan. To be honest, she really hadn't expected it. She'd always been looked down upon in the Clan, always talked about and teased. Through the years, the cat learned to push through the insecurities and show who she really was. Lizardstar must have seen the truth and loyalty in her actions, because it happened, and Sootstorm made the best of the opportunity that she was given. She's still growing accustomed to it, but doing her best to adjust.
